The beginnings of SOL Circle

Twenty years ago, a circle of close friends and family, dressed in white, gathered excitedly in our home in the center of Israel.

Only those present really knew why they were there: to journey deeply into the Mystery, singing songs in many languages that, to us, had become a form of prayer.

At the center of the circle, an altar of light burned brightly as mystical forces swirled and moved through the space — awakening, healing, and generating a frequency so powerful that we would sing and travel upon the sound until the light of the morning sun began to rise.

And when the circle finally closed, everyone simply wanted to do it again.

It was within this magical frequency that Sound of Light began to manifest — and a circle began to grow.

But just before that...

We had never actually intended to facilitate ceremony.

We had left Brazil, left Ciranda and, we assumed, left the path with the medicine behind us.

We were only beginning to establish a new life in Israel when, through a friend, we met Padrinho Maurilio Reis and his companions, who had travelled to the Holy Land to hold several Daime works.

After meeting them in the first ceremony, somehow the entire Daimista troupe ended up staying in our home.

A few days later, we promised to take them to bathe in the sacred waters of the Jordan River.

May 2006

After a beautiful night spent beside the river, the following morning Padrinho Maurilio unexpectedly set us upon a new course.

He encouraged us to bring more light, healing and faith into this part of the world through our joy and love of the Daime — by beginning to hold works ourselves.

It was not something we had been planning.

But something had been planted.

The Circle Begins

Our first gatherings were simply with friends who were already familiar with the ceremonial space.

We had no idea where it would lead.

There was a particular love and safety within those early circles, and naturally people wanted to share it.

“Can I bring this friend?”

“Could my cousin come?”

Little by little, the circle expanded.

Eventually we were blessed to find a beautiful place on an organic farm in the north of Israel, where the growing circle could gather each month — to shake off the system, journey deeply, and pray through the songs of the heart.

For four years we circled together.

Those gatherings brought hope, growth, healing and transformation, but something else was also taking shape.

Friendships deepened far beyond ceremony.

We studied the songs together. We supported one another through our processes and through our lives. If you were part of the circle, you learned the songs, because the songs themselves were part of how we carried the prayer together.

Month after month, something incredibly special was emanating from that circle.

2006 -2009

Four years of intentional circle gave rise to a deep calling to live in community.

It did not arrive all at once.

We were already searching for ways to create community in Israel, exploring possibilities and imagining how it might happen, but the reality around us never seemed able to support what we were trying to create.

And then came the call to the forest.

The Forest Was Calling

Close friends from the circle were planning to move to Costa Rica, and they invited us to join them.

At first the thought seemed absurd.

Leave the circle?

How could we walk away from something that had become so precious and alive?

But the idea stayed with us.

And slowly it began to grow.

The moment it truly crystallized came during a ceremony in which we placed a photograph of a waterfall from the land in Costa Rica upon the central altar.

That night, visions of jungle, vines and forest appeared with extraordinary consistency among those gathered.

The message came through with remarkable clarity:

We were being called to create a gateway to the forest.

When the Vision became the direction

We had also reached a difficult realization.

We no longer felt able to live within a system so deeply supportive of warfare, even while our small circle was emanating another possibility through the hearts of people sincerely longing for peace.

And we knew something else.

We needed to grow the medicine plants themselves - they could not grow there.

What was emerging was no longer simply the desire to hold ceremony - we wanted to live amongst the plants and to create community.

To open a place where people could encounter the medicine while held in the embrace of Mother Nature herself.

So we began working out the details.

We tried to create something secure before making the move. We tried to bring others with us. We made plans, explored possibilities and searched for ways to make the transition make sense.

But in the end, no amount of planning could make that leap safe.

What was required was faith.

And faith is what carried us forward.

Through the grief of unraveling the circle we loved.

Through leaving behind people and a place that had become deeply woven into our lives.

And through all the challenges that were waiting for us on the other side.

That leap eventually brought us to Costa Rica — and opened the next chapter of SOL Circle.

To our beautiful SOL Israel family, we remain deeply grateful.

What we created and shared during those four years was unique, precious and incomparable.

And even though the circle changed form, what was woven there never disappeared!

In many ways, everything that came afterwards grew from those first journeys together.
